There is hardly any human alive on this planet that has never experienced sadness. Notice that we’re talking about sadness here, not depression. Depression, anxiety, pain, and anger are human emotions and it’s normal to feel them. The way you deal with your sadness decides whether or not it will shape into depression.
The insidious presence of depression starts affecting the mood and takes control over your emotions, thinking abilities, and almost every aspect of your physical and mental health.
You get numb to sensations, don’t feel life pleasures anymore, distance yourself from your loved ones, and do everything that shouts down the gates of hope. Can you believe how deep the emotional pain in depression is? You hurt yourself in a way you would never be doing otherwise.
An estimated 17.3 million adults in the United States had at least one major depressive episode. This number represented 7.1% of all U.S. adults.
Let’s dig this deeper.
What is depression?
According to the 5th Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders (DSM-5), depression is “at least two weeks when a person experienced a depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities and had a majority of specified symptoms, such as problems with sleep, eating, energy, concentration, or self-worth.”
The ‘low’ mood you’ve been getting for a long time starts emptying you & affects your everyday life, you’re undergoing depression. You feel that you have lost yourself and life is never the same again. It could be joined by the urge to scream, kick, shout, cry & burst things out.
Sometimes, people undergoing depression isolate themselves, stay locked in their rooms, or find ways to distract themselves from the gloomy feels.
If depression could be defined as a one-liner, it is a mental disorder. As per WHO, 264 million people are suffering from depression worldwide, regardless of their age.
This depression can range from mild to moderate and extend to a severe level. It’s your symptoms of depression that determine whether you’re suffering from mild, moderate, or severe depression. Depressed people are more likely to get suicidal thoughts. Also, more women are depressed than men. Let’s look at this further with the common symptoms of depression.
Symptoms: When do you know if you’re depressed?
Depression may be an underlying cause if you cannot feel the simple pleasures of life for at least 2 weeks continuously. This can be easily related to any particular life incident that left you sad. But, it isn’t depression until it starts to interfere with your routine life constantly.
Here are some symptoms to take into account as common signs of depression, be it in adults or children:
- Sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, emptiness, keeps pouring in & you don’t feel good for weeks.
- You don’t like to indulge in your hobbies, feel a lack of motivation and confidence.
- Narcolepsy, sleep disturbances, or oversleeping habits have entered your life. You’ve made your bed as your new best friend and you are not ready to leave it even if you have slept a lot.
- Weight loss, weight gain, loss of appetite, etc are not surprising anymore
- Loss of energy and extreme tiredness are making you feel exhausted. You’ve become a couch potato.
- You don’t bother to focus on any life activity. Confusions, forgetfulness, lack of concentration, or difficulty in decision-making are what you experience daily.
- Your mind is consistently churning negative thoughts & this makes you feel irritable, frustrated, and pessimistic.
- Occasional physical pain gets frequent, for instance – headache, body pain, stomach pain, etc.
- Instead of sipping joys of life, you want to suicide or die because you have lost hopes and you think no one can help you out. You may make suicidal attempts with or without a plan.
Depression is different for all ages
Looking at the signs and symptoms of depression, you must have got the idea that depression is not the same for all. A man, woman, teen, millennial, gen-z, or adult may be depressed differently. Similarly, the responses to depression are also distinguished based on the causes of depression.
Depressed women may attract negativity and also suffer from panic and anxiety disorder, eating disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. As a result, they’ll cry spells, keep on rehashing negative emotions, feel guilty, and blame themselves.
Men suffering from depression start living with anger and frustration. They will start avoiding things that add to their depression. As a result, they enter into reckless behavior and undergo substance abuse to avoid circumstances. They may even adopt escape routes by spending more time at work.
The millennial generation is usually observed practicing isolation, social withdrawal, disturbing studies/career, frequent complaints regarding headache/body pain, and despair.
Elderly people under depression are often mistaken for other disorders like Alzheimer’s, sleep disorders like insomnia, neglecting proper hygiene, etc.
To be honest, no single cause of depression can be figured out because the interconnectivity of certain biological, psychological, environmental, and genetic factors are responsible together. If you’re feeling depressed, the following reasons could be held responsible:
- Substance Abuse, alcohol, or drug overuse
- Side effects of certain medication
- Conflict in personal or professional life
- Death or Loss of Loved one
- Genetics/Family History
- Critical Life events
- Personal problems
- Serious illness
- Brain structure changes
- Poor Medical conditions
- Personality disorders

Also known as MDD or unipolar depression is something that makes people feel low all day & every day. This goes on for at least two weeks continuously due to some recurrent life episodes.

Can depression go away on itself or you have to use medication?
As far we have discovered now, depression is a severe mood disorder. It cannot go away on its own. This does not mean it is a permanent issue. It can be solved, either with medications like Etizolam, Etizex, etc. Not only do antidepressant medications help curb this mood disorder, but alternative treatment options are also available.
One cannot figure out an effective treatment as per their health conditions. Only a therapist or medical practitioner can assist with the best solutions based on the individual’s current situations & need to heal.
Repeat after me, no need to feel ashamed for using depression medicines. Depression is a common mood disorder, and so should be the use of antidepressants like Etizest.
Antidepressants interfere with neurotransmitters in the brain. Such medications belong to any of the three:
- selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
- serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs)
- norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors (NDRIs)
They are all prescription medicines that are prescribed to patients undergoing depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Medications like Etilaam and Etifine are also minimizing the effects of depression. In other words, such medicines are helping people to lead a normal life by affecting the GABA neurotransmitters responsible for signaling body responses based on emotions.
With the very nominal dosage of Etizolam 1mg, depressed people can still get help beyond what you can imagine. This is the reason why Etizolam buy should not be criticized because you never know what someone is going through.
Medications or therapies work magic in combination with some healthy habits. Switching to a healthy diet, exercising regularly, meditation, tracking sleep, and practicing mindfulness will keep you going. The way you control these activities influences escalating or reducing the severity of depression symptoms.
Exercising is often underrated for dealing with depression. Similarly, meditation heals your mind and soul. Do whatever makes you feel good and start little.
Getting therapies is normal these days. For instance, visiting a psychiatrist gives you the benefit of opening up & discussing your sufferings. Similarly, many effective therapies are available for treating depression namely Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
The overall intention of these therapies is to help out individuals in developing & implementing skills to manage and control emotions and thoughts. As the thought process changes, the shift from pessimism to optimism happens. These therapies bring a feeling of contentment and pleasure. Thus, the likelihood of depression decreases. You unburden stress & anxiety and soak enjoyment that is quintessential. This way, you get rid of depression with the help of therapies.
Recovery is not an option, but a necessity. It’s a journey you have to begin at some point, so why not now! Talk to a therapist & start a medication that best fits your health.
